Allison Gruber is an essayist and educator. Her work has appeared (or is forthcoming) in Pithead Chapel, Forge Literary Magazine, Foliate Oak, The Huffington Post, The Hairpin, The Literary Review, Gravel, and in the anthology Windy City Queer: Dispatches from the Third Coast, among many others.
Her debut collection of essays, You’re Not Edith (George Braziller Inc., 2015) received praise from Publishers Weekly, Booklist, and NewPages, among others, and was a finalist for a Lambda Literary Award.
Her second collection of essays, which center on themes of home, love, and teaching, is forthcoming.
A Chicago native, Gruber now lives in Flagstaff, Arizona with her wife, Sarah and their menagerie of animals which includes a hairless cat and a Dachshund.
Gruber spends her days teaching Creative Writing and Literature at Flagstaff Arts & Leadership Academy.
